Samia and her dog Ruby of Dogs and Dooss

Hi, I’m Samia Elhage, Founder and Director of Dogs & Doos.

Growing up on a small hobby farm in Central Victoria, surrounded by animals, it’s no wonder I am an avid animal lover. Pet dogs, cats, horses, chooks, ducks, peacocks, a magpie, goat, cow and sheep, were my companions. And to this day I’m known for rescuing stray dogs and offering extra food and love to neighbouring moggies.

While living in Dubai, I witnessed terrible cruelty and disregard of animals. I came across a desperately starved puppy that had been missing for weeks. True to my nature, I rescued her, nursed her back to life, built up her trust and she became my best friend. Her name was Ruby and after two years in Dubai, I brought her back home with us to Australia. Some would say I paid a fortune to bring her back, but she was worth every cent, and I would’ve paid more. Sadly Ruby passed away after many wonderful years as part of our family, in 2020.

Working with animals has always been a long-held aspiration of mine. My experience with Ruby and determination to help all dogs live their best life, motivated me to change my career path from over ten years in the tourism industry to professional pet care.

I am so proud of the loyal following Dogs & Doos has, our pack has included many pooches since they were pups and clients since the business started in 2011. We have fostered strong relationships in the pet care community. Including an ex-police dog trainer and veterinarians, who not only refer clients to us, but they also keep us updated in health and behavioural tips.

I feel quite fortunate to be able to work with my human and furry family every day. Our son Hadi was born into a life surrounded by animals. Family and friends have always marvelled at the way we live our life and how privileged he is to have so many treasured furry friends. They bring us all so much joy and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

I named my pet leisure services ‘Dogs & Doos’ because out of all the creatures in the animal kingdom dogs are my ultimate joy! ‘Doos’ refers to the things they do—the good, bad and the ugly, as our service encompasses it all.

Ahamad & Hadi of Dogs and Doos.

Hi, I’m Ahamed Gani, Director of Dogs & Doos.

When I first arrived in Australia, I was petrified of dogs as they aren’t normally part of family life in Sri Lanka. That soon changed when I met Samia. Here was a woman who let her dogs sleep on the bed! She showed me that dogs were great company and gentle souls.

Pets certainly became part of the package when she started Dogs & Doos and we found ourselves adopting a lovely little black Cavoodle, Minnie, who had been a client since she was a puppy. Her owner was young and decided she wanted to travel and wanted Minnie to go to a family she trusted and loved. Minnie is now 12 years old and fits in quite well in our family, keeping her two-legged brother, Hadi, entertained.

As Dogs & Doos became popular, I would help Samia on my days off and I realised that working with dogs was quite rewarding. Long hours in high-end hospitality, dealing with a lot of people in a demanding environment no longer appealed in comparison to playing with pooches in the fresh air.

So, I threw in the towel and undertook a 12-month course with the Gentle Modern School of Dog Training, which gave me a great understanding and appreciation of dog behaviour.

Today, I am often referred to as the dog whisperer because of my relaxed and calming presence around animals.

I love working with all the members of our pack, keeping them active and providing stimulation. My favourite places to walk are Highett Reserve, Farm Road Kingston Heath and adventure hikes at the beach. We provide a fun, safe and fulfilling service for your dog.
